Naming Things

In an essay titled Poetry and Happiness, Richard Wilbur says poets are list-makers and quotes Rilke of Duino Elegies, who asks

Are we perhaps here merely to say: House, Bridge, 

Fountain, Gate, Jug, Fruit-tree, Window,

Or Column, or Tower...

It came to me that I am a list-making painter. Naming Things is composed of familiar objects chosen by chance. The objects are ties together with branches holding the promise of Spring and the hope for more time to name things.
